Yes - A visa is required for travel to Latvia

A valid passport and residence visa are required for missionary travel to Latvia. Some applicants must appear in person at the nearest Consulate to submit biometrics for this visa.


Passport Requirements:

Original, signed passport (and two copies) valid for 6 months beyond stay in Latvia, with at least one blank passport page available for available for Latvian visa stamp. Amendment pages in the back of the passport are not suitable for Latvia visas.


Latvia Visa Application Form:

One original Latvia visa application form. After placing your order, fill out the application form included in your Visa Application Kit.


Photo Requirements:

Two recent (taken within the last 6 months), identical, 2 x 2 passport photographs, in color, front view and with a plain/light background.


Other Forms:

  • A copy of the applicant’s ordination document.
  • Proof of Residence: A copy of the applicant’s lease or rental agreement.
  • A document confirming the state duty payment.


Letter Of Invitation:

A letter of invitation from the host organization or sponsor in Latvia explaining the relationship to the applicant and the purpose of travel to Latvia. In addition, the letter must indicate the length of stay, place of stay, and host’s name and contact information.


Business Letter

Letter from employer or sponsoring company in the US on company letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant’s employment status/position held in the company, clearly stating the purpose of visit to Latvia. The business letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant and must provide detailed contact information in Latvia.


Proof of Travel Arrangements:

Computer generated flight itinerary from the airline or a travel agency or copy of airline ticket showing entry and departure from Latvia.


Proof of Sufficient Funds:

Proof of sufficient funds for duration of stay, such as bank statement from previous 3 months or tax returns.


Special Instructions:

US citizens do not need a visa enter Latvia up to 30 days and may opt to apply for a temporary residence permit through the Latvia Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs.


In Person Appearance:

The Consulate requires applicants to make a personal appearance to apply for this visa. These instructions are provided as a guide to help with this process. We recommend that you contact your nearest Consulate directly to confirm requirements and make an appointment to apply in person.
